Proposed Staff Development Model

Based on Judi Harris' and Kimberley Ketterer's articles from ISTE's publication, Learning and Leading with Technology (see October 2007 blog entry) , the following plans will be explored for implementation during the 2008-09 school year:

Determine a goal such as:  Effective technology use in elementary curricular areas.  This particular goal would fit very well with the existing 2007-2010 Combined Information and Media plan that is in place.  Teachers are expected to integrate technology in each of the four main core curricular areas with students completing one independent project during the school year.  Grade level teachers work to build foundational skills so students are able to independently complete the project later in the school year.

The plan for offering professional development could be based on Judi Harris' suggestions from the recent May 2008 article, One Size Doesn't Fit All.
  • Instructor-organized sessions
    Demonstration or awareness sessions
    Large- or small-group interaction sessions
  • Individualized learning:
Independent exploration possibly in the form of teacher directed tutorials
  • Collaborative learning:
    Classroom visits
  • Development of materials and approaches
    Collaborative materials creation
