The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District Summer Tech Academy was well attended by teachers. Positive comments were received from both presenters and teachers attending the training. Teachers were appreciative of the support provided and enjoyed time away from the busy school day to attend these sessions. A few of the comments gathered by trainers:
- I would like to see a follow up during the school year.
- Will you be providing more training on iWork this year?
- Enjoyed the small group sessions to learn more about this software.
- I would like to have a SmartBoard in my room next year - can you help?
- The wikis look easy to start, can't wait to add more to mine during the school year.
While this training opportunity during the summer was positively received, the focus was mostly on the software. Additional staff development in the areas of integration within curricular areas needs to take place. Teachers need to be able to use the software to enhance how they are currently teaching. The application of technology with students will be a key indicator of success.
The plan for fall will be to meet with library media specialists to see how we can assist teachers to move to their next level of integration. The overall goal in all of our work is focused on student academic achievement. If teachers have various tools to teach a concept, students will be able to find a way to learn that concept and further their understanding of the curriculum.
