Fraser Speirs is a software developer and teaches computing at a private school in Scotland. His school (Cedars School of Excellence) claims to be the first in the world with a 1-to-1 iPad deployment. Their blog has information about the deployment. Speirs also has some information on his personal blog about the deployment.
He provides others with information about the Cedars School of Excellence experience which is greatly appreciated as this is a new technology that may have challenges in implementing in education, depending on how it is deployed. Since the iPad is a personal device, deploying it as a 1-to-1 and providing apps to meet the needs of each individual student makes sense. However, discussions in other schools revolve around providing a classroom set to be shared or used by multiple students. The focus is different, therefore the implementation will be different. The way the iPad is deployed may be different for each school, therefore the process for implementation will differ from school to school.
